Here is a true story, that happened to a friend of mine and her baby, almost 25 years ago. I will give the story as she wrote it. God isn't someone we put in a box and command Him to do what we want. He intervenes and helps us the way He knows best. Sometimes, God heals people. Other times, God uses His wisdom and power to protect us. Here is a story of how God intervened on behalf of a woman with her baby. Without His intervention, the course of life for these two people would have been very different.
One Sunday as several nursing mothers were gathered in the foyer during the church message with our babies, I had placed my daughter in her car seat in a chair. Above the chair, bolted to the wall was a television monitor on a shelf. It had been there forever, so I didn't think anything of it. Lewis happened to come along just then and said, "Donna, I don't like the look of that t.v. up there. You should probably move Lauren somewhere else." I smiled and picked up the car seat and moved it to the couch, thinking how sweet it was of Lewis to care. The next thing I knew, literally seconds later, that television came off the wall and fell right into the chair where my sweet baby was only moments earlier! It was a miracle and God really used Lewis to save my girl's life! My daughter is 25 years old now and a mommy herself to my sweet granddaughter! God wasn't finished with her and I will be forever grateful to the Lord for sparing her and to Lewis for listening to the prompting of the Holy Spirit!

God Still Does Wonderful Things
We were at a retreat at a church that was planted out of the church I am part of (http://www.metrolife.org), and the teaching had to do with who God is in His power. In the book of Acts, we see a God who is alive and active, who does wonderful things. As we read Scriptures, we get to know this God who still does wonderful things. His power has not died down, and we can learn about Him and grow in our relationship with Him, because of what He has given us, when He sent His Son to live among us 2,000 years ago. The Bible talks about the Gospel being the power of God.
Our friends, a man who was a pastor at our church who was sent up to a church in Gainesville, and his wife, now serve there. While we were at the meeting, I was made aware of a condition that our friend had with her ear. She had gone deaf in one of her ears, and had been tested by the doctor as well as put on medications and treatments to try to bring the hearing back, but sadly, nothing worked. From what the doctor told her, when this kind of thing happens in the ear, from what they could determine was wrong with it, she would not ever regain her hearing in that ear.
That Friday evening, there was a time of prayer and ministry, and there was a specific time of prayer for my friend. I have heard good reports about our visit there for that retreat, but what I heard happened to her was the best. My friend's hearing was restored that night. She could hear now, and the doctor doesn't really have an explanation of why her hearing came back. We know what happened. God had shown His loving-kindness and mercy to my friend, along with His healing touch. May we believe in this God who is merciful and powerful, and who shows Himself mighty to those who fear His name.
